The short answer
Very heavy items such as safes are limited by weight and access rather than size. PORTR can move some safes with the right vehicle, crew and equipment, but genuinely heavy units, pianos and items requiring specialist lifting gear must be confirmed before booking rather than assumed.
What actually limits a very heavy item?
Three things: the vehicle's payload, the crew's safe lifting capacity, and the route. A safe that two people can shift on a flat ground floor becomes impossible on a narrow staircase with a turn.
Floor loading matters too, particularly in flats and older buildings. This is not a common problem, but it is a real one, and it is worth flagging if the item is being placed above ground level.
What should you tell us before booking?
The item's weight and dimensions, which floor it is on at both ends, whether there is a lift and its capacity, the width of the narrowest doorway, and how far the vehicle can park from the door.
If you do not know the weight, find the model number. Manufacturers publish weights, and a guess of 100kg for a 300kg safe is the difference between a completed job and a failed one.
When is PORTR not the right service?
When the item needs stair-climbing equipment, a crane, a hoist through a window, or piano-specific handling gear. Those are specialist trades with specialist insurance, and we will say so rather than attempt it.
This is the same principle as the rest of our service limits: we would rather turn a job down in advance than take a booking we cannot deliver.
