What do storage facilities require from a courier?
Most require the account holder or an authorised person to be present, and many restrict access to published hours that are shorter than their office hours. Some require carriers to sign in at reception before entering the storage area.
Check whether your unit is on the ground floor. An upper-floor unit reached by a goods lift takes materially longer to load than a drive-up unit, and that time belongs in the quote rather than being discovered on the day.
How should you prepare a unit for collection?
Stack items so the ones leaving first are reachable. A unit packed wall to wall has to be partly unpacked before anything can be loaded, and that time is chargeable.
Make sure everything is genuinely ready to travel: drawers empty, appliances dry, glass removed and wrapped, and fixings bagged and taped to the item they belong to.
How is a storage move priced?
From the vehicle the load requires, the real driving distance between the facility and the other address, the handling time for the items, and the access at both ends including lifts and carry distance.
Because the vehicle is matched to the actual list rather than assumed, moving three items out of storage does not attract the same price as clearing the whole unit.
